Mold Carpet Cleaning
The fungi we know as mold grows naturally in the wilderness as a natural decomposer for dead leaves and trees. In this environment it is helpful, but not so much when it invades your home. Mold breeds through spores that you cannot see. These spores cannot grow into mold unless they find a wet environment. In some cases, you may need to deal with mold carpet cleaning. Carpeting that has been damp for awhile or suffered water damage may have a mold problem. One of the first signs of such a problem is the odor, which is unmistakable.
Carpet infested with mold needs to be either gotten rid of or cleaned thoroughly. It is possible that the moisture has soaked to the floor beneath, so tearing up the carpet may be the best choice. If you don't want to pull up your carpet and do not believe there is mold underneath, try a steam cleaner with a strong cleaning solution made for carpets. There are also cleaners made to get rid of mold you may want to try. The carpet must be thoroughly dried with fans and a dehumidifier as moisture causes mold to form.
One of the top ways to prevent this type of mold is to avoid carpeting moist areas of your home. This means you do not want to carpet the bathroom, no matter how stylish you think it looks. An area rug made for the bathroom to avoid slipping when exiting the shower is fine, but carpeting the entire floor is a recipe for mold. Basements and attics are two other areas where mold can be prevalent. Although bleach can be used to kill mold, you may not want to use it on colored carpet – it is best left for concrete areas.
Mold carpet cleaning should be left to the professionals if there is a large area that is affected. Depending on the type of mold, you may have to evacuate your home while the cleaning process is taking place. If the mold is not widespread and not dangerously toxic, you may be able to stay at home while the professional cleaners do their job. After all is done you might want to consider replacing the old carpet with new carpet. Sometimes after suffering mold damage and the rigors of cleaning carpeting just isn't the same.
